Fort Worth-based electronic device retailer RadioShack recently filed for bankruptcy, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald reported on February 10.

Reports said several RadioShack stores were shutdown in January before the company filed for bankruptcy on February 5. In North Carolina alone, at least 43 RadioShack outlets have been listed for closure. According to bankruptcy documents, the company is planning to shut down a total of 1,784 stores by the end of March. This month RadioShack will close over 1,000 of their 4,297 outlets. Siblings Milton and Theodore Deutschmann founded RadioShack in 1921 to provide equipment for amateur ham radio operators.
