American food chain Sbarro, known for its Italian-American pizzas, is closing 155 stores in the U.S., including two stores located in North Carolina, the Triangle Business Journal reported on February 20.

Sbarro LLC spokesperson Jonathan Dedmon said the company’s move to shut down more than 100 outlets is vital for them to be able to recover their finances and to project brand growth. In North Carolina, Sbarro recently closed a store in Raleigh and another one in Cary.

Sbarro, which has more than 800 outlets worldwide, reportedly sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April 2012 and exited after seven months.
