The North Carolina Association of REALTORS® (NCAR) announced Wednesday that it is setting aside $50,000 to help homeowners who may be facing foreclosure receive counseling.

The state’s organization received a grant from the National Association of REALTORS® for five $10,000 fellowships that will serve 46 of the North Carlolina’s counties.

In 2011, 53,241 North Carolina homeowners filed for foreclosure. The NCAR hopes to reduce that figure by providing counseling to citizens. The money will be used for monthly foreclosure prevention workshops in numerous state counties.
